Russell Armer Homes has been shortlisted for three prestigious awards in the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2018.

The Sheiling, in the Lune Valley village of Arkholme, as well as Cragg Close and The Avenue in Kendal have attracted the attention of LABC judges and are in the running for awards including: Best High Volume New Housing Development and Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development, plus Best Small New Housing Development.

The Sheiling is an attractive and accessible development of 14 properties in a conservation area with its own character and history. The new development reflects local building styles and references the area’s agricultural heritage, too, with stone boundary walls and landscaping around the mature trees.

Cragg Close comprises 94 homes in the north east of Kendal, benefiting from ecology-focused landscaping features (including a newt pond), ornamental and native shrubs and trees, as well as hedges, stone walls, grassed and woodland areas in keeping with the semi-rural environment. Half of the properties were allocated as affordable homes. On the other side of Kendal, close to Vicarage Drive, The Avenue is a small development of just 15 homes on a steeply sloping site with views across to the castle.

The three developments are very different, but all offer high-quality housing options that enhance their surroundings.

Russell Armer Homes Architect, Richard Wood:

‘We’re delighted to find ourselves on the LABC Awards shortlist. It’s such an achievement, considering we’re up against competition from national builders. We are particularly proud of these developments which we believe offer a positive contribution to the built environment in all three locations. Families are now enjoying comfortable accommodation that is modern, well-equipped and energy efficient – we’ve got to be happy with that result, whatever happens at the awards ceremony.’

The LABC awards celebrate achievements in the construction industry. They reward ‘excellent buildings and outstanding companies’. The LABC network covers all local authorities in England and Wales and is split into twelve regions, each of which awards its own prizes.
