New play area in Kendal opens – thanks to local support

Children and adults alike are enjoying access to state-of-the-art exercise and play equipment at a community playground to the south of Kendal town centre – thanks to the vision of a dynamic community group.

Four years ago, Rinkfield Area Community Group began an ambitious campaign to raise funds for a new playground that would provide accessible play apparatus and outdoor fitness equipment for residents of the Rinkfield Estate.

With support from South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) and from local businesses, including a £1000 donation from Russell Armer Homes, the group were given the green light for the project and went on to raise more than £80,000 to design and build the facility. Residents were consulted throughout the process and their ideas incorporated into the final plans.

On 30 July, more than 100 people – presided over by the Chair of SLDC, Cllr Eric Morrell (and a Minion!) – gathered at Rinkfield Play Area to celebrate its official opening. Thankfully, the sun put in an appearance and a good time was had by all.

Russell Armer is always delighted to be able to contribute to local initiatives, especially when they offer the opportunity to bring communities together in the pursuit of long-term goals.

Martyn Nicholson, Russell Armer MD, commented: “It’s great to see communities banding together to drive through improvements that make a real and lasting impact on people’s lives. We hope that Rinkfield residents continue to get pleasure from this new park for many years to come.”
