Local Area

If you know Kendal already, you’ll be familiar with its historical charm, vibrant culture and distinctive Cumbrian character. Skirting the south-eastern edge of the Lake District National Park, Kendal has timeless market-town appeal and a famously friendly community with lots going on all year round.

It’s a great base for outdoor-lovers who head for the hills every weekend and for the town-dwellers who enjoy browsing the specialist shops and exploring the meandering ‘yards’ before stopping off for well-earned refreshments in one of Kendal’s many cafés, bars and restaurants. The many annual festivals create a lively cultural buzz for residents and visitors alike.

Well-developed transport links have really helped to put Kendal on the map. The town is just five miles west of the M6 and is lucky enough to have its own mainline railway station two miles south of the town centre at Oxenholme, connecting to Glasgow, Manchester and London.
